These photographs are from an album that my Mother, Jeanetta (Etta) Elizabeth Johnston (nee Thompson) assembled of her life as a young woman and of her children, family and friends. Until I looked at these little prints closely while scanning them for my site, I had believed that I was the photographer in the family. Actually, so was my Mother who made pictures with her Brownie box camera and who collected the pictures in her album.
Looking at these images I realized that I knew very little of the vibrant lives of my older siblings that the pictures captured. That's part of what happens when a child arrives in a family's very late stages. One misses so much.
Two versions of Etta's pictures are included here, the first one being the direct scan of the image from the album. The second picture I have cropped and edited very slightly. The first image often includes information written by Etta stating who is included. I have occasionally added identifications as best i can. Expect errors.
So let's have a look at pictures from 1914 (a young Etta with a soldier beau) to about 1950 (yours truly with my Grandma Thompson. The pictures start in Indian Head, Saskatchewan and end in Lethbridge, Alberta.
